Jávri Lodge is a luxury boutique hotel in the small village of Saariselkä, which lies in the wilds of Finnish Lapland, 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. Open to just 26 fortunate guests at a time, the traditional Lappish-style chalet is a tranquil, aesthetically pleasing retreat.
It was here that Urho Kekkonen, the longest-serving president in Finland, escaped with those closest to him, as well as royalty and world leaders, to feel the tangible presence of nature. The service today remains nothing short of presidential with a personalized service, cuisine that celebrates the best of local delicacies and all the outdoor activities one might expect to find in Lapland.
Jávri Lodge has just thirteen en-suite rooms for two persons: six Cozy Doubles, three Presidential Suites and four SkyView Suites. Whilst the rooms and suites vary in size, style and position, all provide the most restful place to lay your head at the end of the day. It’s also a chance to experience the silence of the Finnish wilderness: there are no TVs or phones in the rooms, but there’s a tablet, should you need to log in, and free Wi-Fi.
When your days are spent exploring Mother Nature’s bounty, it’s only fitting that meals be as hearty and sustaining as possible. And while Jávri Lodge’s culinary team will ensure that you’re satiated, it also promises an exceptional and creative menu. Changing daily, it reflects both seasonality and availability, and is determined by the organic ingredients delivered by the local gatherers, fishermen, reindeer herders and hunters.
Deep in the Arctic Circle at Jávri Lodge, relaxation is certainly top of the agenda. After the day’s exploits, warm up in one of the two authentic Finnish saunas, enjoy a massage, or take a dip in the swimming pool. Or, curl up by the log fire and watch the ever-changing landscape outside.
The location of Jávri Lodge in Saariselkä – a gateway to the trails and adventures in Urho Kekkonen National Park – is ideal for those seeking to experience untouched nature. The Finnish wilderness is on the doorstep just waiting to be explored; to glimpse the Northern Lights, to hibernate in winter’s cold and darkness and to awaken once more in the never-setting sun as summer replaces winter.
A two-night minimum stay is required. The rate includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, soft drinks, outdoor wear, the use of pool, saunas and fitness studio, and one guided activity a day.
